Better fitness reduces risk of death from heart attack

It is well known that people who exercise regularly and have better fitness have a lower risk to suffer a heart attack. According to an article of Mayo Clinic Proceedings, even in the case they suffer a heart attack they have a much lower risk of death compared to individuals who don’t exercise and have a poor exercise capacity.

The participants’ fitness was assessed using exercise treadmill testing. The risk of death in a month after a heart attack was 13,9% in patients having the poorest exercise capacity and 6% in patients with the best exercise capacity.

In conclusion, exercising regularly and maintaining a good fitness level can reduce the risk of suffering a heart attack and additionally, in case it happens it can reduce the risk of dying from it.
