Carotid Ultrasound

carotidsThe carotids are the arteries supplying oxygenated blood to the brain. By examining the area of the neck with ultrasound we can assess whether there is narrowing (plaques) of the carotids, which is one of the most important causes of stroke. We also measure the thickness of the carotid arteries (IMT, Intima Media Thickness) which is an early predictive risk factor for stroke and heart attacks.
