The heart valves are structures within the heart. Their role is to regulate the direction of blood flow ensuring normal heart function. Valvular diseases are conditions where one or more heart valves are not functioning properly. They are most frequently caused by aging, congenital valve defects, or from the presence of other heart diseases. A few of the most frequent valvular diseases are aortic valve stenosis, aortic valve regurgitation, mitral valve regurgitation and tricuspid valve regurgitation.
At CardioHealth Center Valve Disease Clinic we are taking care of patients having problems with one or more heart valves. A complete examination of the patient is conducted through history taking, clinical examination, and echocardiography. In case it is necessary, we can perform more specialized tests such as 2D and 3D transesophageal echocardiography.
After the examination, the mechanism and the severity of the valve disease are determined.
In cases of severe disease, after discussion with a team of colleagues - interventional cardiologists and cardiac surgeons - and fully informing the patient, the appropriate treatment is decided upon: monitoring (in combination with medications if appropriate), intervention through catheterization or surgical intervention.
Our clinic actively participates and supports GESY, providing citizens with all the services that can be obtained through the General Health System.
