Check-ups

Heart disease is the most common cause of death in the modern world. Therefore, we believe that prevention of heart disease is extremely important.

Cardiac check-ups in our practice consist of:

  • Conversation about personal and family medical history and assessment for the presence of any risk factors for heart disease.
  • Review of blood tests*.
  • Clinical assessment for the presence of signs of cardiovascular disease (including assessment of the blood pressure).
  • Investigation such as electrocardiogram (ECG), echocardiography (echo), exercise stress test, and carotid ultrasound. The appropriate tests are selected according to the calculated risk of cardiovascular disease. These tests can be performed on the same day (if pre-booked or if there is availability) or can be scheduled after the initial assessment.

*Blood tests are a very important part of cardiac check-ups (especially tests such as cholesterol and glucose). You can have your tests in advance of the check-up appointment in a lab of your preference (preferably after communication with us to guide you which tests are appropriate for you). We can also offer blood sampling in our practice (please note that you need to be fasting when blood samples are drawn. Therefore, check-up appointments which include blood sampling should be arranged for early in the morning).
