On March 22, 2022, we had the opportunity to proceed with the first Optimizer ® Smart (Impulse Dynamics®) device implantation in our young patient with heart failure due to dilated cardiomyopathy. The operation was performed by the distinguished colleague Dr. Ilias Papasavva at the Apollonius Private Hospital. The device aims to improve the contraction force of the heart. The result is achieved by providing specially synchronized electrical pulses to the heart for certain hours of the day (cardiac contractility modulation). The Optimizer ® Smart device looks like a pacemaker and is placed under the skin in the chest and comes with leads that are placed in the right ventricle of the heart through veins. It can be used in people with heart failure who remain symptomatic despite the use of optimal therapy.
