Dobutamine Stress Echo (DSE)

2013-08-28 14.10.39This procedure is used for the diagnosis of coronary artery disease or for the assessment of patients with known coronary artery disease. To perform the test we have to insert an intravenous canulla. Through this we administer dobutamine (a medicine which increases the rate and the strength of heart beats) while we monitor the function of the heart with ultrasound. This is a more accurate study than the exercise stress test which is also used for the diagnosis of coronary artery disease. It can be used for patients who cannot exercise and in cases where information of the exercise stress test are inadequate.
